About the Artist

Dhanashri Sujit Deshmukh

Pune based Dhanashri Deshmukh (b. 1985) experiments with the language of abstraction and the applications of paint to push the limits of non-representative communication. Inspired by a desire to capture her experiences and emotions, for instance, a moonlit walk, the sour taste of tamarind, a desire to perceive the world as yellow, as well as an encounter with works by Prabhakar Kolte and Vincent Van Gogh encouraged Deshmukh to break free from visual representation as well as art tools. She paints with her hands and feet applying thick layers of paint in a mesmerising colour palette that lends the canvas a tactile sensuous quality.
