About the Artist

Al-Qawi Nanavati

Al-Qawi Tazal Nanavati (b.1995) is a Mumbai based artist who draws on her spiritual beliefs and close familial bonds to create paintings, prints and mixed media works that investigate the communicative nature of art. She deploys a numerical pattern using 11, 33 or 99 to structure her art. Thus her prints often include 11 separate layers and her painting series 33 Days of Ibadat was made over 33 consecutive days. These self-dictated structures allow us to witness her deeply personal exercises in meditation and concentration.
