Still life

Still life artworks focus on inanimate, everyday objects. Conventionally, the objects presented in still life paintings were symbolic, especially in connection to religious figures or imagery, but today they might simply be chosen for formal or aesthetic value. In the 20th century India, the first artists who considered the still life looked to Western antecedents, while around independence and later, others incorporated the genre into their practices in painting, printmaking, and collage.
