Smita Srivastava (b. 1975) is a self taught abstract artist specialising in mixed media. Her artistic expression stems from her personal experiences and emotions, resulting in creations that reflect her inner landscape. As an intuitive artist, Srivastava does not predetermine the final outcome of her work; rather, she allows it to unfold organically without preconceived notions. Her process involves responding to spontaneous marks, evolving colours, and visual textures, guided by the rhythm and softness of music, which holds a significant place in her studio practice and daily life. Employing techniques such as layering with collages and marks, each layer adds its own history and energy to her creations, inviting viewers to unravel their meanings and depths.
Srivastava has earned her Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Food Science and Nutrition from SNDT University, Mumbai. The artist’s works were recently featured in the FOAID show at the Jio Convention centre, Mumbai (2023). Additionally, her artworks were showcased in the solo exhibition at Pradarshak Gallery, Mumbai (2018) and several group exhibitions such as Museum of Goa, Goa; Iconart Gallery, Hyderabad; Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai & Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore. She has previously participated in various shows such as India Art Festival, Mumbai (2023/2020-2017/ 2016-2014); World Art Dubai (2022/2020); Online show at Bombay Art Society (2021); Mumbai Art Fair (2018). Her works were also selected to showcase in Bombay Art society Annual show a t Jehangir Art Gallery (2024/2022) & Annual online show at The Art society of India (2022). Srivastava is a Mumbai abstract artist.
