Sangita Dattaverified

Active since 2013

Sangita Datta (b. 1987) is a visual artist based in Kaladham, Greater Noida. Her practice remains anchored in the oral life history of her mother, grandmother and other womenfolk. In her work, Datta looks at the intricacies, interiorities and the muted horror of daily abandonment that is common everywhere in the lives of women but particularly in West Bengal where she grew up. Her investigations are expressed as layer-painted prints, material assemblages, mixed media, canvas paintings and sculptural objects. Increasingly, through her own migratory disorientations, Datta’s works explore the theme of homemaking—a burden that's inevitably gendered, and attempts to engage the user to ask the question, "What are the materials homes are really made of?".
Datta has completed her M.F.A. in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2013). She was awarded for Tat Tvam Asi Honorable Mention Award, from SCZCC, Nagpur (2016). She was a grantee of Shrishti Aif Grant, Shrishti  Art  Gallery, Hyderabad (2020). She had a solo show titled 'ANOTHER REALITY' at Rabindra Bhawan, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2018). She was a part of Korea - India Art Exchange Exhibition, Art Konsult, New Delhi (2017) and India Contemporaries, a group exhibition in Russia (2017). She has exhibited her works at Jaipur Art Summit - fifth edition, Jaipur (2017), CIMA Awards Show - CIMA Art gallery, Kolkata, West Bengal (2019), 61st National Exhibition of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2020).
