Samba Prasad Biswas (b.1982) is primarily recognized as a painter, boasting over 14 years of dedicated artistic practice. Biswas' oeuvre revolves around experimental approaches, seamlessly integrating the language of form, shape, space, and volume. With meticulous precision, the artist defines these elements, imbuing them with a palpable presence. Through adept manipulation of texture and shadows, Biswas infuses the compositions with a tangible quality, elevating these elements to become central characters within the artwork. Beyond conventional categorisations of figurative and abstract, Biswas' work transcends boundaries, occupying space in a manner that invites exploration of the artwork's potential to evoke unique visual narratives related to human existence, unfurling in an open-ended fashion.
Biswas has earned both his Bachelor of Visuals Arts (BVA) degree (2007) and Master of Fine Arts in Painting (MFA)(2009) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Since 2010 he has been working as an Art Teacher at a Govt. Sponsored Institution, School service commission (S.S.C.), W.B. Govt. The artist has recently showcased his works at 57th Annual Exhibition, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata (2024); NFT Art Projects Auction curated by Bitglim, South Korea (2022) & Finext Award & International Art Exhibition, Devlalikar Kala Vatika, Indore (2024). His work have been previously showcased in several exhibitions including Space, 2nd Biennale exhibition organised and curated by Collaborative Art Space and Tasmai- a centre for art and culture, Pondicherry (2023); ‘Re-immaginare La Trama Del Mondo’-a collective exhibition organised by CESIE & Marie Marzloff Award Foundation at Spazioif, 65-Palermo, Italy (2023); Prayas Annual Show organised by Chemould Art Gallery, Kolkata (2017). He has been involved in various art camps and workshops such as Art Camp celebrating 130th Birth Centenary of Acharya Nandalal Bose, organised by Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (2009); Painting Camp organised by the Faculty of Visual Arts Rabindra Bharati University at the Siliguri Campus (2009); Paper Sculpture & Print Making Workshop organised by Nirupama Academy and Galerie 88, Kolkata (2016); Fresco Painting Workshop organised by the Faculty of Visual Arts, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2008). He has been awarded with several scholarships and awards including Rabindra Bharati University Scholarship (2005-06); The Art Association (TAA) Honorary Membership, Geneva, Switzerland (2024); Patron Art Award by Big I Art Foundation (BIAFS), Siliguri (2023-24).
