About the Artist

Pankaj R. Vishwakarma

Vadodara-based artist Pankaj R. Vishwakarma’s (b.1986, Azamgarh, UP) practice stems from his experiences of growing up in the industrial city of Ankleshwar. He signifies this through the use of enamel and foil that carries memories of growing up in a factory environment. In its manifestation, Vishwakarma’s practice investigates the notions of belonging to a place, culture, and identity. His colored abstractions are built deliberately through the act of pouring enamel paint on the canvas which, according to the artist, is an act of subversion to narrative realism of industrial life. Vishwakarma’s practice resonates with artists whose painting practices are framed around specific actions.
