About the Artist

Namrata Lodaya

Namrata Lodaya (b.1984) is a performance, sculpture, and installation artist living in Mumbai. Her practice is a response to her personal struggles and different experiences in her life, where she uses art as a vehicle for processing her emotions. Arising from a conceptual practice, Lodaya reconfigures the notion of ‘deformation’ to challenge the idea of spoilage, and instead adopts the “uncontrollable changes” that occur between the past and present as a re-formation or renewal. In her performances, sculptures and installation works, she borrows from a minimalist palette. She extends the performance by ‘erasing’ and 'deforming' the past to create a body of works which morph the idea of origin.
