Mukesh Sah (b.1968, Uttarakhand) is a self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist. Having spent his formative years amidst nature, the mountains, forests, and rivers became the dominant subject of his paintings and sculptures. Their ruthless exploitation and destruction however, compelled the artist to view them from a different perspective; not as mere landscapes but as abstract forms of laterally dissected “landmasses,” sans human presence. There are craggy fragmented peaks, rivers, and water bodies precariously trying to cling to each other. Etched geometric lines or embossed abstract forms bring out a catharsis for the scars and painful stories that lie beneath them, yet the mountains in particular, stand tall and majestic, reaching out to the skies in their graceful forgiveness for erring humanity.
