Koushik Saha (b. 1997), born, raised and graduated in Kolkata, is formally trained as a fashion designer. His extensive study of various textiles found across India, coupled with a keen interest in fabric manipulation, frequently recurs in his works. Saha disrupts and manipulates the tactile nature of materials to explore themes of destruction and construction. Growing up while crossing several cultures and coming to terms with the changing cultural sphere influenced his outlook on life. His detailed research on garments and clothing across cultural thresholds significantly impacts his work. This particular body of work by the artist attempts to examine the pervasive yet often neglected parts of a city—specifically Kolkata, which played an important role in the artist's formative years. Saha observes different walls of Kolkata from multiple corners of the city. The abstract growths of moss and fungus, along with their changing colours, shapes, and forms under the influence of time, become sources of speculation and reminiscence.
